This is the name given to raising the bridge of nose which may be depressed by birth or lowered due to injury. This can be done at any age from sixteen years onwards, but usually young adults are the ones that opt for this procedure. This procedure can also be combined with reduction of tip of the nose or width of the nose.
Although this can be done under local anaesthesia, it is preferable to have General Anaesthesia.
No scar is visible after the surgery as it is done from within the nostril, unless it is combined with another procedure. Even then the scar will be in the natural crease and will not be visible.
A piece of bone is taken from the hip region through a small cut which is fashioned and inserted into the nose. An inert material called silicone can also be used in the place of bone; but we prefer to use bone since silicone is a foreign material and chances of displacement at a later date and infection are associated with it.
One or two days of hospitalization may be required.
A small splint over the nose and a small dressing over the hip region need to be removed after a week. The swelling over the nose subsides in 5 to 7 days. |
